Smooth turn-over as FDC-Iloilo elects new chair and trustees

ILOILO CITY - The Freedom from Debt Coalition (FDC-Iloilo) has elected its new set of officers and board of trustees in its recent 12th Chapter Congress held last August 14, 2010 at the Nes N’ Tats Restaurant in Iloilo City.

Members of the campaigns and advocacy organization unanimously elected Ted Aldwin E. Ong as its new chairperson which paves the way for a smooth turn-over of leadership from Atty. Romeo P. Gerochi, who was elected and re-elected to the position since 2003.

QUEZON CITY – The Freedom from Debt Coalition held its 11th National Congress last 17-19 August 2010 at the Hotel Rembrandt here under a six-year (2011-2016) theme, dubbed “Consolidating consensus, advancing people’s struggles and building alternatives.” With 247 official delegates, the FDC Congress also elected its new set of officers and members of the Board of Trustees for the next three years.

We commend DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson for exposing Japanese government-funded P3.5 billion loans that formed part of "midnight deals" entered into by the Arroyo administration. The move will be huge step toward the struggle against corruption and illegitimate transactions that tainted the Philippine government for the past decades.

MANILA, Philippines – Instead of postponing the bidding for the independent power producer administrator (IPPA) contract covering the 640-MW Unified Leyte Geothermal, the government must suspend all privatization of all remaining assets of the National Power Corporation (NPC) pending a comprehensive review of the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA), according to the Freedom from Debt Coalition (FDC) Thursday.
